It’s been too long since I updated here; well, it’s been too long since I’ve been serious about exercise. But yesterday, at my doctor’s suggestion and my wholehearted acceptance, I began taking Wegovy for weight loss and to protect my heart. It’s not a cheap medication, so I’m glad my insurance covers it. But that’s costing something in that our parishioners pay for my insurance, so I need to take it seriously, and this won’t work well without watching my diet and getting some exercise.
So yesterday I signed up at the PARC which is the rec center for the park district in which I live. It’s ridiculously cheap for, ahem, senior citizens like me (oof, but at least there are benefits!). Funny story: When I went to sign up yesterday, the very nice young woman at the desk informed me that next Friday, on Black Friday, they were running a special of only $17 a month for a year (a three dollar a month discount). I thanked her but said, “If I don’t sign up today, I’m afraid you’ll never see me again!” She laughed and said she understood, then signed me up.
So today I went, and I promised myself that I’d do a mile walk. I enjoyed that, because they have a wonderful walking/running track up above the gym (you can see down to the activities going on there; there was a kids’ soccer game going on which was cute to see). So I did my mile, but I also got to see, from up above, the fitness room I also had access to with my membership. So I did about half an hour of strength training after. It was a wonderful workout!
I’m also a member at the park district rec center in Glen Ellyn where I live on my days off, and that, like the PARC, is an awesome deal. They’re also both very clean, all the machines work, and the staff is pleasant and welcoming. I think these park district rec centers are vastly underrated. Anyway, I’m feeling great after my workout today!
